Pro Bowl QB Donovan McNabb Expects Big Things Out of Caleb Williams

We’re only a week away from the start of the 2024 NFL season.

As we approach the season, there is a ton to look forward to, including the play of Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, the 2024 NFL Draft’s No. 1 overall pick.

Williams was named the starting quarterback by the Bears months ago, and he will officially get his first taste of the professional game next Sunday. His debut is much anticipated, and all eyes will be on the 22-year-old.

Williams has some high expectations as he enters his rookie season, and certainly, the weight of Chicago is on his shoulders. Not only do many pundits and experts expect big things from the young quarterback, but so does former Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb.

McNabb recently spoke to LA Sports Report and said he expects big things from Williams right out of the gate.

“What I like about him is his throwing mechanics. We can talk about his athletic ability, but playing from the pocket — he looks smooth, he’s accurate, he puts the ball where his receivers can make plays,” McNabb said to John Robinson IV and Doug McKain of LA Sports Report. “The bonus is his ability to extend the play and stay accurate outside the pocket. I think in the next three years, you’ll see from Caleb what we’ve seen from C.J. Stroud.”

McNabb continued to say that the media and others try to find ways to bring down Williams, and it has nothing to do with his actual play.

“Bryce Young was the number one player, but Stroud was the number one pocket passer. They questioned his athletic ability outside of the pocket, not knowing he rushed for over 50 yards against Georgia. He showed his athletic ability, but they still tried to find flaws. The same goes for Caleb Williams. We try to find negative things in quarterbacks, but we can’t seem to find them. So, we harp on things like painted nails or running to his mom when things go wrong — things that have no relevance to playing the game. When he’s on the field, he’s clearly the number one quarterback.”

When you have yet to play in the league, and pundits compare you to Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers, certain people will take it the wrong way. However, there is no doubt that Williams has similar intangibles.

Williams fits perfectly in today’s game as he is the prototypical quarterback of the new modern age. He’s mobile, big, strong, fast, and powerful, and more importantly, he is a winner and a great leader.

McNabb sees what the Bears and other teams see in him. Williams could be the real deal a lot sooner rather than later.
