Rams vs. Lions Betting Preview

L.A. Rams Betting News, Analysis

The Rams are led by one of the most proven quarterbacks in the league in the 36-year-old Stafford, and if Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp are both healthy, this passing game should be able to keep the Rams in every contest.

L.A.’s backfield is also promising after Kyren Williams’ breakout season a year ago, and former Michigan star Blake Corum enters the league as a potentially dangerous complement to Williams.

The Rams’ O-line should be solid this season thanks to the offseason signing of former Lion Jonah Jackson, but in Week 1, it’s an area of concern. That’s because starting left tackle Alaric Jackson is suspended, and right tackle Rob Havenstein is questionable due to an ankle injury.

If the Rams have to start backups at both tackle positions against Detroit on Sunday, that could make for a long night for Stafford against an underrated D-line led by Aidan Hutchinson and offseason pickups Marcus Davenport and D.J. Reader.

It’s the young Rams’ front seven, though, that could be its Achilles heel unless several unproven young players prove NFL-ready right away.

Following L.A.’s recent trade of Ernest Jones to Tennessee, its front seven will feature a handful of players with limited experience as starters, including rookies Jared Verse and Braden Fiske.

Against one of the top O-lines in the league, don’t be surprised if the Rams’ front seven struggles on Sunday Night Football.

Detroit Lions Betting News, Analysis

There’s good reason to be confident in the Lions. Last year’s team had few weaknesses besides its shaky secondary, and Detroit acquired several assets to address that after the 2024 campaign ended with a heart-breaking second-half collapse in the NFC Championship Game.

Rookies Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw were both highly regarded coming out of Alabama and Missouri, respectively, and the Lions also acquired experienced starters in nickel Amik Robertson and corner Carlton Davis III.

Offensively, the Lions should be one of the best teams in the league in their third year under offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, even if they continue to lack a second receiver opposite Amon-Ra St. Brown. The Lions could go from among the best offenses in the league to league-best if speedy WR Jameson Williams emerges as another reliable threat alongside ARSB and second-year stud TE Sam LaPorta.

Rams vs. Lions Prediction, Best Bets

L.A. should be a .500 or better team this season, but we like the Lions in Week 1 given the Rams’ inexperience on the defensive line and at linebacker.

In fact, Detroit on the spread, a bigger alt spread at longer odds, and/or the Lions’ team total are all good bets given their advantages at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

Rams vs. Lions Best Bets

  • Detroit -4.5 (best odds: -105 at FanDuel)
  • Detroit alt spread -6.5 (+126 at FanDuel)
  • Detroit Team Total Over 30.5 (+124 at DraftKings)
