Remittance flow increased, on August 17 it reached 13 thousand 374 crores

After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5 in the face of the students' movement, the amount of remittances coming into the country through legal channels has increased dramatically. Remittances came to a standstill in early August due to the ongoing violence, but have since increased manifold.

In the first 17 days of this month of August, remittances worth 114 crore 42 lakh 20 thousand dollars have arrived in the country legally, according to Bangladesh Bank. In Bangladeshi currency (as 118 taka per dollar), the amount is more than 13 thousand 374 crore taka.

Out of this, 9 crore 56 lakh 50 thousand dollars have arrived in the country till the first three days of August, but only 38 crore 71 lakh 20 thousand dollars have come from 4 to 10 August.

Of this remittance, 15 million 29 million dollars came through the state-owned banks, about 3 million 77 million dollars came through one of the two specialized banks (Krishi Bank).

Besides, more than 94 million 14 million dollars came through private banks and 2.15 million dollars came through foreign banks.

Incidentally, during the quota reform movement in government jobs, expatriates reduced their remittances in protest against the attack by law enforcement agencies on unarmed students. Also, he announced to send money to Hundi instead of sending remittance in the legitimate way of the expatriate in accordance with the one-point demand of the students. This suddenly reduces the speed of remittance. As a result, remittances were more than two billion dollars for three consecutive months, but suddenly fell below two billion dollars in July.
