National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University staged the famous drama 'Nimjjan' about genocide by Selim Al Deen, a proponent of Bengali new drama style, as a tribute to the global genocide.
The second staging of the play was held on Monday (May 27) at 7 pm at the Zia Hyder Lab of the Department of Theater and Performance Studies. Earlier on Sunday (May 26) at 5 pm, the first staging of the play took place at the same venue.
The play was planned and produced by Hirak Mushfiq, Assistant Professor of Theater and Performance Studies Department. The play has been produced as an exam production for the students of the 2019-20 academic year of the department.
In the flow of events of the play, a stranger who has witnessed genocide and brutality in different parts of the world comes to a strange city after a long time traveling the world in search of an old friend. When the professor meets his friend, his colleague, the poet and the student, a series of atrocities continue in the city. The play leads to a conclusion through various setbacks that calls for a beautiful world.
Director Heerak Mushfiq said, “Regardless of the country's era, the form of brutality from the ancient history of genocide to the present, has never been good for people in the world.” 'Immersion' is a visual statement. As long as genocide continues under various pretexts, the relevance of 'immersion' will not diminish at all. The effort put in by the students of the department in staging such a difficult text is evident in the presentation.'
The students of the department played various roles in the play, Tripti, Rafel, Kaniz, Katha, Shakeel, Shaheen, Gauri, Parag, Fatema, Charu, Taru, Leona, Pallab, Ishrat, Prathana, Pinki, Pooja etc.
