Should Taylor Back Harris or Trump? Here’s What Swifties Think

Speculation continues to mount as to whether pop superstar Taylor Swift will formally endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

A recent YouGov poll has revealed how the singer’s fans are feeling about the race for the White House.

Among the Swift fans that responded to the survey, almost half (46 percent) said they thought she should publicly endorse political candidates, whilst 30 percent said she should not publicly speak about politics and 24 percent were unsure.

As to whom she may endorse, 48 percent of Swifties believed her to be a Democrat, suggesting many fans could be anticipating an endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris. Swift endorsed now-President Joe Biden during his 2020 campaign.

Just seven percent considered Swift to be a Republican, 13 percent said she supported an independent candidate, and 31 percent were unsure as to where her political loyalties lie.

Whether or not the pop superstar endorses a candidate appears to have little impact on who Swifites will be voting for come November. Seventy-one percent of fans said a Swift endorsement would make no difference as to how they will cast their vote.

Just seven percent said it would make them less likely to vote for said candidate, and 14 percent answered that it would make them “much or somewhat” more likely to back them.

Among all U.S. adults, the vast majority (68 percent) said a Swift endorsement would make no difference on who they choose at the ballot box.

Among respondents who identified as Republican voters, 30 percent said an endorsement from the singer would actually make them less likely to vote for a given candidate.

Whomever Swift should decide to endorse, Swifties agree that it will provide a boost to their campaign.

Almost half (48 percent) said it would have a positive impact on former President Donald Trump’s campaign, and 68 percent said an endorsement would boost Harris’.

Trump recently attracted criticism after he posted AI-generated images to his Truth Social platform which implied he had the 33-year-old’s backing.

Trump later told Fox Business he didn’t know anything about the AI images, and only afterwards learned they were not from Swift.

“I don’t know anything about them, other than somebody else generated them,” Trump said. “I didn’t generate them. Somebody came out. They said, oh, look at this. These were all made up by other people. A.I. is always very dangerous in that way. It’s happening with me too. They’re making — having me speak. I speak perfectly, I mean, absolutely perfectly on A.I., and I’m, like, endorsing other products and things. It’s a little bit dangerous out there,” Trump said.

As fans and commentators continue to speculate on a potential endorsement, Newsweek asked generative AI tool ChatGPT whether Swift would back Harris, which came to the following conclusion:

“While it remains uncertain whether Taylor Swift will endorse Kamala Harris, the speculation is rooted in her past political activity and alignment with Democratic values. If she does not endorse Harris, it is likely that Swift will continue her activism in ways that promote voter engagement and the issues she cares about, potentially influencing the election outcome without making a formal endorsement.”
