Steelers’ Reported Trade Offer for 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk Revealed

Brandon Aiyuk remains in a “hold-in” as the San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver seeks a new contract.

Aiyuk and the 49ers are on different pages in contract discussions, but for now, the team has elected not to trade him.

One team that has been heavily linked to Aiyiuk all offseason long is the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers traded wide receiver Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers earlier this offseason, and Aiyuk would instantly become the No. 1 wide receiver in a revamped Steelers offense.

While the Steelers’ interest in Aiyuk has been known for a while, on Monday, Gerry Dular of KDKA-TV went on The Rich Eisen Show and revealed what the Steelers are offering to the 49ers in a potential Aiyuk deal.

“The Steelers, I was told, were not going to offer any players in the trade,” Dulac said. “They were going to offer draft picks, a number two, and then something else. I guess they are just kind of waiting to see what the 49ers decide to do.”

Dular says the Steelers are offering a second-round pick plus additional draft compensation for Aiyuk. However, they won’t be sending a player back in the deal, nor will they part with a first-round pick.

“They would like to have him, I don’t want to say they need to have him,” Dulac said. “When you have George Pickens, you don’t need to have him but there is no question they would like to have him.”

The 49ers drafted Aiyuk with the No. 25 overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Aiyuk has improved in each of his first four seasons in the league, culminating in a career-best 2023 season in which he caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. Aiyuk emerged as a top wide receiver in the entire NFL and earned All-Pro Second Team honors.

Aiyuk now wants to get paid like a top receiver in the NFL as he heads into his final year of team control. The 49ers have been adamant about wanting to keep Aiyuk in San Francisco despite his multiple trade requests. While the two sides appear to be cordial during this process, they haven’t been able to agree on a deal.

The 49ers open the 2024 season in three weeks on Monday Night Football against the New York Jets. The clock is ticking to get a deal done with Aiyuk to give him ample time to get ready for their regular season opener.
