Suicide of 'rape victim' woman, investigation ordered


The National Human Rights Commission has ordered the formation of an inquiry committee into the allegations of gang-rape and later suicide of a housewife in Kurigram for not being able to repay the loan.

This was informed in the press release of the National Human Rights Commission on Sunday. Superintendent of Police of Kurigram has been instructed to closely monitor the investigation of the case filed in this incident and submit a report to the court on an urgent basis and inform the National Human Rights Commission.

The date of submission of the report has been fixed on July 16. At the same time, a committee headed by an Additional Deputy Commissioner has been ordered to investigate the complaints regarding not being able to file a case and taking signatures on blank stamps demanding one lakh rupees for medical expenses. The Deputy Commissioner of Kurigram has been instructed to send the committee's thorough investigation report to the Human Rights Commission.

It is to be noted that in Rajivpur of Kurigram, a housewife was accused of gang-rape for two months because she could not pay 20,000 rupees on time. The housewife could not file a case at the police station due to police obstruction. Later the housewife died after drinking poison.

The Human Rights Commission has termed all the allegations, including rape, as 'horrific' and 'gross violations of human rights'.
