Sukumar buried his mother on the floor of the house surrounded by water

In Panchgachia Union of Feni Sadar Upazila, an old woman named Priyabala Burman was buried on the floor of her house as she could not be cremated in flood water. The incident took place in Bhagbanpur village of Union on Tuesday (August 27).

According to local and family sources of the deceased, Priyabala Burman was suffering from heart disease for a long time. After the evening of August 21 last, flood water flooded their yard and water entered the house. As the night progressed, the water in the house started to rise. At that time, Priyabala along with his son Sukumar Chandra Barman, his wife and children were staying in the house. At one point, the son kept the mother inside the house to save her from the water. After spending six days without food, Priyabala fell ill on Tuesday. In the afternoon the son Sukumar hired a boat with great difficulty and left for the hospital for treatment. But Priyabala breathed his last after going some distance. Sukumar returned home with his mother's body from the road. But the area is still flooded. There is no condition for cremation. Later, he died and buried his mother on the floor of the house.

In this regard, Sukumar Chandra Burman said, working as a tailor, he used to live with his sick mother and family. On that day, I returned home with the body and started digging the ground to bury it on the floor of the house. All the other rooms of the house had water up to the feet, but there was no water in that room. At one stage of soil digging, water starts to rise in the hole. I was digging the soil on one side and my wife was irrigating the water on the other side. Later I somehow buried my mother there.

Sukumar also said in a tearful voice that no one should have such a fate. I never thought I would have to face this situation. Even though I knew that the body would be washed away in the flood, I somehow did not dare. That is why I buried my mother on the floor of Pak's house (kitchen).
