Sundarbans open after three months ban

The Sundarbans are open for foresters and tourists from today (Sunday) after a ban of three months. The forest families along the Sundarban Satkhira range are in a festive mood to go fishing for fish and crabs.

The ban on entering the Sundarbans is lifted from Sunday (September 1). As a result, there are no more obstacles for tourists, fishermen, fishermen or foresters to enter the Sundarbans.

According to the information of the Forest Department, the watershed in the Bangladesh part of the Sundarbans with an area of 6 thousand 17 square kilometers is 1 thousand 874.1 square kilometers. Which is 31.15 percent of the entire Sundarbans area. 210 species of white fish, 24 species of shrimps, 14 species of crabs are found in the waters of Sundarbans.

Foresters said that most of the fish in the rivers and canals of Sundarbans lay their eggs during the three months of breeding season from June to August. For this reason, the forest department has banned fishermen and tourists from entering the Sundarbans for three months from June 1. The ban is lifted from today.

Earlier, crab fishing was closed in January and February as breeding season. As a result, the people who depended on catching fish and crabs in the Sundarbans were in dire straits.

MKM Iqbal Hoshain Chowdhury, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) of Satkhira Range of West Sundarbans said, after three months, fishermen and bawalis have been given entry passes (permits) to Sundarbans from September 1. For this, along with fishermen, trawlers transporting tourists started preparing.
