Tariq Rahman was acquitted from a case of sedition

The acting chairman of BNP, Tariq Rahman, has been acquitted by the court in a case of sedition filed in Noakhali court.

On Wednesday (August 21), Noakhali Additional District and Sessions Judge Court. Noman Mohi Uddin gave this verdict of acquittal.

Court Inspector. Shah Alam said, the judge has ordered the officer-in-charge (OC) of Charjabbar police station to send back the arrest warrant sent in the name of Tariq Rahman in this case.

After the fall of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina on August 5, Tariq Rahman was acquitted in a case for the first time, who was convicted in several cases including the August 21 grenade attack.

On February 28, 2015, Noakhali's Subarnachar Upazila Awami League President and Charjabbar Union Chairman Omar Farooq filed a case against Tariq Rahman in connection with a speech he made about Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at a London event in December 2014.

After submitting the complaint to the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, the judge at that time directed the Charjabbar police station to take legal action regarding the complaint.

Earlier on last Sunday (August 18) afternoon, the BNP leaders and activists of Suvarnachar marched against the plaintiff advocate Omar Farooq to withdraw the false case against Tariq Rahman. At that time, the chairman was expelled from the union council and demanded to bring him under the law.

It is known that in December 2014, acting chairman of BNP Tariq Rahman gave a speech about former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at an event in London. Later on February 28, 2015 Suvarnachar Upazila Awami League President and Charjabbar Union Chairman Advocate Omar Farooq filed the case against Tariq Rahman in the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.

The court ordered Charjabbar police station to take legal action in this regard. On April 4, 2017, Sub-Inspector (SI) Anwar Hossain filed the charge sheet in the Bhunya court. Later, the court issued an arrest warrant against Tariq Rahman in this case.

The counsel for the state in the case was Additional District Judge Court PP (Public Prosecutor) Debbrata Chakraborty. District BNP Vice-President Advocate ABM Zakaria and Krishak Dal Central Committee Organizing Secretary (Chittagong Division) Advocate Rabiul Hasan Palash stood for Tariq Rahman.

Tariq Rahman went to the UK for treatment the year after his arrest in 2007 during the military-controlled caretaker government.
