The anti-discrimination student movement has provided health services to more than 12 thousand people

The anti-discrimination student movement provided free medical care and medicine to more than 12,000 people in the flood-affected areas in the southeastern part of the country. This service was provided from last August 26 to August 28.

This information was announced in a press release sent by Tahmeed Al Mudassir Chowdhury, the coordinator of the media wing of the platform, on Thursday (August 29) night.

It is said that we have taken the initiative to provide relief aid as well as medical services in order to stand by the flood victims from the anti-discrimination student movement. Following this, we form teams of expert doctors, para-medics, nurses and volunteers and send them to the flood-affected areas.

Before sending a team of doctors to the flood affected areas, we convened an emergency meeting on August 24 in the presence of about two hundred doctors, para-medics and nurses and from that meeting some decisions were taken to deal with the flood situation and in the light of that the decision was taken to provide treatment to those areas.

Since the medical services in the flood-affected areas were broken, we did not decide to set up field hospitals in the first place that could be reached quickly in the affected areas. We set up our first field hospital at Falahia Madrasa in Feni by sending a team of 30 members to Feni on the night of 25 August with a team consisting of specialist doctors. From there, divided into different groups, medical services were delivered to the affected areas with mobile teams. In Feni, about 26 different places are divided into different medical campaigns.

On August 26, two teams of 52 members were sent to set up field hospitals in Comilla and Noakhali to ensure medical care for people in flood-affected areas. Like Feni, field hospitals were supposed to be built in these two districts but it was not possible due to the non-cooperation of the administration. However, mobile teams work to deliver medical care to flood-affected areas. Campaigning was done at 10 places in Noakhali and Chouddagram and Burichong in Comilla. In this process more than 12 thousand people are provided medical care and free medicine.

A 22-member team was sent to set up the Laxmipur Field Hospital on Wednesday, which has already started work. Soon another team will be sent to reach the flood affected areas of Khagrachari.
