A video of people piling frozen bodies into a van recently went viral on social media. The shocking video was of some people from the student movement.
The matter came to the fore when the video went viral on Facebook last Friday (August 30). Although there was confusion about the incident at first, the main incident came out later on the basis of an election poster.
The investigation revealed that this brutal incident took place in Savar's Ashulia. One of the helmeted policemen seen in the video is Arafat Hossain, investigation officer of Dhaka North Intelligence Police. Talking to the locals, it is known that the incident happened in the afternoon of August 5.
In the video, one body after another is being lifted onto the van, one bloody body on top of the other; A few policemen wearing helmets and chest vests are busy in this work. The bodies were covered with dirt sheets and roadside banners. Hands, feet and head can be seen from behind the sheet and banner.
The countrymen have suffered due to the brutal behavior of the police. Eyewitness Habibur Rahman said, that day we saw a terrible picture. Protesters on one side and police on the other. At one point the police opened fire to disperse the protesters. Some died on the spot. After that six bodies were taken in a van by the police. After some time, the bodies were found in the police car. Then the car with the dead bodies was on fire.
It is reported that the total number of dead bodies in the van was six. Four of them have been identified. They are Sajjad Hossain Sajal, Tanzil Ahmed Sujoy, Baijid and Sabru Humayun. The police have yet to identify the other two.
Locals alleged that after the collapse of the dictator Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5 afternoon and the news of her fleeing the country, the angry students marched towards the Ashulia police station and the police fired at them indiscriminately. Later the bodies were taken in a van. From there, it was transferred to a pickup, which was set on fire to erase the images of the massacre. As-Sabur (16), a schoolboy who joined the anti-discrimination student movement in Savar's Ashulia, was among the victims who were burnt. He is the son of Enaf Nayed, a resident of Jamgra Shimultala area of Ashulia. As-Sabur was a class 10 student of the local Shaheen School.
Talking to Imam Maulana Mofazzal Hussain of Baipail Central Jame Masjid near Ashulia police station, it is known that they have not come to the mosque since noon on August 5. However, the next morning, six burnt bodies were cremated there.
