He is the elder brother of Gazipur-3 Constituency Member of Parliament and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Professor Rumana Ali.

On Thursday (April 18) evening, after exchanging views with thousands of leaders and activists of different levels of Sripur Upazila, he announced to contest for the post of Chairman in the upcoming Upazila Parishad elections.

Jamil Hasan is the son of Rahmat Ali, a five-time former Member of Parliament and former Minister of Gazipur-3 Constituency. He had announced to elect a Member of Parliament for the Gazipur-3 (Sripur and part of Gazipur Sadar) constituency in the 2018 and 2024 parliamentary elections. But he did not participate in the election because he did not get the party nomination. He announced his candidacy in the last parliamentary elections and bought nomination papers. Later, he withdrew from the election by supporting his younger sister and the then Member of Parliament for reserved women's seat Rumana Ali.

Addressing a large number of leaders and activists while announcing his candidacy, Jamil Hasan said, “I have decided to participate in the next upazila parishad election.” Decision making at home is not a democratic practice. I want to decide the fate of the people of Sreepur not in the house of Uttara but on the ground of Sreepur.

In this regard, Advocate Jamil Hasan Durjoy said, I will participate in the election on four conditions. This includes, none of my staff will attack anyone on social media. I will vote in accordance with the electoral code of conduct. We will cooperate with the law enforcement forces and we will join in crying with those who have created division in the party, with whom division has been created in the last parliamentary elections.

Meanwhile, Awami League sources said that MPs and ministers will not be able to interfere in the elections 'Myman' cannot create. List of those electing through near relatives. Strict action will be taken against them if necessary.

When asked about this, Afzal Hossain, Central Organizing Secretary of Awami League said, “We are working to avoid any kind of chaos in Trinamool. Our party president Hon'ble Prime Minister has given several instructions. Our party general secretary also gave a message in this regard. If relatives of MPs and ministers elect, there may be a bias. Therefore, the party instructions – relatives of MPs and ministers should not vote. Organizationally we are working to ensure this. He also said that the party high command has already given instructions to the departmental organizational secretaries in this regard.

It is to be noted that the voting in 480 upazila parishads is to be held in four phases. According to the announced schedule, polling will be held in 150 upazila parishads in the first phase on May 8. In the second phase, 166 upazila parishads will vote on May 21. At this stage, the election of Sreepur Upazila Parishad will be held. In the third phase, 112 Upazila Parishad elections will be held on May 29.
