The government has changed the names of 247 government primary schools in the country that have negative and offensive names.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education issued a notification informing about the name change. It was signed by the Ministry's Deputy Secretary Mohammad Kabir Uddin.
According to the notification, the name of Khasitana Primary School in Koira, Khulna has been changed to Udayan Government Primary School, Damurhuda Patachora Government Primary School in Chuadanga has been changed to Chayabeethi Government Primary School, Sirajdikhan Chormarddan Boys Government Primary School in Munshiganj has been renamed Gnanpradip Boys Government Primary School and Chormarddan. Girl Government Primary School name changed to Zamindarbari Boy Government Primary School, Godagacha Government Primary School in Lalpur Upazila of Natore changed to Salampur Government Primary School, Chormara Government Primary School name in Kazipur Upazila of Sirajganj changed to Matrichaya Government Primary School name, Chuldhari Government Primary School name change in Shahjadpur Upazila Upazila Phulchari Government Primary School, Bhandgram Government Primary School of Thakurgaon Ranishankail Upazila has been changed to Varnamala Government Primary School and thus the names of the negative and negative schools have been changed.
On January 19 of last year, the Ministry issued the Policy-2023 for Naming and Changing Existing Names of Government Primary Schools.
Primary and Mass Education Secretary Farid Ahmed said that many of the government primary schools scattered in different parts of the country have names that are offensive and have negative connotations. Which hinders the child's taste, thinking, sense and sophisticated growth.
The ministry has decided to change the names of these schools to be beautiful, tasteful, melodious and befitting the local history and culture, including local prominent people, brave freedom fighters. Names with such negative connotations will be changed gradually across the country.
According to the latest annual report of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, there are 65 thousand 56 government primary schools in the country. The number of students in these is 2 crore 5 lakh 46 thousand 91. There are 3 lakh 62 thousand 709 teachers.
