The death toll has risen to 54 in the ongoing floods in the southeastern part of the country. Besides, about 10 lakh 9 thousand 522 families have become watertight.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief confirmed this information on Friday (August 30) afternoon.

According to the Ministry of Relief, 54 people have died so far in 11 days due to floods in the eastern and southeastern parts of the country. About 10 lakh 9 thousand 522 families have become watertight. The flood affected districts are – Feni, Comilla, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Laxmipur and Cox's Bazar.

Overall the country's flood situation has improved. As a result, people have started returning to their homes from shelters. Communication system has been normalized in flood affected areas.

According to the report of the ministry, 4 upazilas have been inundated by this year's flood and 486 unions/municipalities have been affected. A total of 10 lakh 9 thousand 522 families in 11 districts are watertight; The number of affected people is 54 lakh 64 thousand 167 people.

The ministry also said that 54 people have died in the ongoing flood so far. Among them, 41 men, 6 women and 7 children. District-wise, Comilla-14, Feni-19, Chittagong-6, Khagrachari-1, Noakhali-8, Brahmanbaria-1, Laxmipur-1 and Cox's Bazar 3 and Moulvibazar 1 died. Still one of the missing in Moulvibazar.

It is known that a total of 3 thousand 269 shelters have been opened to provide shelter to the people trapped and affected by the ongoing floods. A total of 4 lakh 69 thousand 687 people have taken shelter in the shelters. 38 thousand 192 cattle have been taken to the shelter. Apart from this, a total of 567 medical teams are operating in 11 districts to provide medical services to the victims.

One lakh 94 thousand 285 packets of relief, 19 thousand 260 packets of cooked food have been distributed to the flood affected areas by the armed forces. A total of 42 thousand 766 people were rescued and 18 thousand 389 people were provided with health care. Apart from this, 153 people were rescued and provided healthcare by helicopter. Besides, a total of 24 camps and 18 medical teams run by the armed forces are providing medical services to the flood affected areas.
