Homebound people are leaving Dhaka at the last minute for the Eid journey. Meanwhile, since the morning of Tuesday (April 9), there is heavy traffic on the highway of Sirajganj, the gateway to North Bengal. Due to this, the Bangabandhu Bridge Dhaka-bound lane and toll collection have been closed to reduce traffic congestion on the Bangabandhu Bridge East Highway.
In this regard, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangabandhu Setu West Police Station Abdul Quader Jilani told the media that the traffic movement on the highway from the West Bridge to the North is completely normal. However, due to the traffic congestion on the east side of the bridge, the Dhaka-bound lane and toll of Bangabandhu Bridge are closed for the time being and the vehicles are being brought across from the other side through four lanes. However, as there are not many cars in the Dhaka-bound lane, there is not much problem. The Dhaka-bound lane of the bridge will be opened only after the traffic jam on the east side of the bridge becomes normal.
Meanwhile, Bangabandhu Bridge executive engineer Ahsanul Kabir Pavel's mobile phone was called several times to talk about this, but he did not pick up.
Meanwhile, numerous people were seen returning home in open trucks and pickups taking risks since morning. Most of them are low income people. Various vehicles are rushing to the destination with people facing home. Members of law and order forces were seen to be active along the highway. However, heavy traffic has been noticed on this highway.
