The first international conference in the Bangla Department of Comilla University

Comilla University (Kubi) organized a two-day international conference on 'Eastern-Western Influence in Bengali Drama and Playwright Munir Chowdhury on Birth Centenary'.

The conference was inaugurated on Wednesday (November 26) at 10 am in the conference room of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The first day's activities ended at 5 pm.

The head of department of Bengali department of the university. Under the chairmanship of Muhammad Shamsuzzaman Milki, the chief guest was the Vice-Chancellor of the University. Haider Ali. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Masuda Kamal and Dean of Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof. Banani Biswas were the special guests.

In this conference, the director general of Bangla Academy was in charge of presenting the main article. Mohammad Azam and the head of department of Bengali department of Jabadpur University of India. Salim Box Mandal. Asif Munir, the youngest son of cultural activist and Shaheed Munir Chowdhury, was the guest of honor along with teachers and students of various universities.

A total of 67 papers were read in two sessions on the first day of the conference and 10 papers will be read on the second day on Thursday.

Asif Munir said, “This is the biggest event in Munir Chowdhury's birth centenary. Munir Chowdhury is not only a playwright, he has done more works outside of drama, which have enriched Bengali literature. But now we have such a situation, I think Munir Chowdhury means only 'grave' drama. Apart from the grave, he has more plays, short stories; people are not aware of them. Munir Chowdhury and other intellectuals, we have to capture them and their works.”

In the conference, Mohammad Azam said, “Your responsibility does not end if you call the play Western influence. Your responsibility is increasing, increasing the responsibility to discover. How our modernity has transformed by accepting the influence of the West in the play. The Eastern and Western influence in our play was extremely caught at the time of Semi Mountain. At the same time, Devesh Roy did this work in the case of the novel.”

He also said, “Munir Chowdhury actually wanted to be in the modern drama genre. He was the prominent expression of the modernization of East Bengal. He is proposing a liberal democratic state in his literature.”

Vice-Chancellor Professor Haider Ali said, “Current society and culture are all in a kind of fragility. You who will be teachers in the future, have a big challenge in front of you. Young people, who think about society and culture; there are many areas in their thinking. I hope, through your essays and plays, the norms, changes and realities of society will emerge; as well as increase awareness among people about artificial intelligence.”

Professor Muhammad Shamsuzzaman Milki said, “A total of 77 papers will be presented in this two-day conference. It will undoubtedly be a milestone event for the department.”
