Minister of Social Welfare Dr. Dipu Moni said that the disabled are an integral part of the society. The government is trying to bring the disabled into the mainstream. Policies and laws have been developed as part of that effort.
He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the first International Disability Art Festival Dhaka-24 at the National Theater of Shilpakala Academy on Friday (April 26). Dhaka Theater President Naseeruddin Yusuf also spoke at the event under the chairmanship of Deputy British High Commissioner Matt Cannell.
The social welfare minister said that people with disabilities suffer from various physical and mental problems, but they are not just like normal people in terms of intelligence and thinking, but creativity is more in many cases.
The minister also said that he wants to create a system so that children with disabilities can get education in general. I will try to make special arrangements for those for whom it is not at all possible. Sports and cultural activities are necessary for their physical and mental development like everyone else. It is essential for them like everyone else.
Later, the minister announced the inauguration of Dhaka-24 International Festival of Art for the Disabled.
