Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said that the program of providing housing facilities to the families of 30,000 brave freedom fighters across the country is ongoing.
The Liberation War Affairs Minister gave this information in a written reply to a question of Awami League member Mainul Hossain Khan in the session of the Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday (May 5). Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session.
AKM Mozammel Haque said, in the fiscal year 2003-2004, the first allowance program has been started for 40 thousand brave freedom fighters/beneficiaries at the rate of three hundred taka. The present government is constantly taking various activities for the welfare of the brave freedom fighters. In continuation of this, the amount of freedom fighter honorarium has been increased several times from 2021-22 fiscal year with a monthly honorarium of Tk 20,000; Two festival allowances are being paid annually at the rate of Tk 10,000.
Since the last financial year (2018-19), freedom fighters and their heirs have been given State Honor Allowance at the rate of Tk 2,000 per person for Bangla New Year allowance and Tk 5,000 per person for the Great Victory Day allowance of living freedom fighters. Currently, the issue of increasing the honorarium of brave freedom fighters is under review.
The Minister of Liberation War Affairs said that a total of 2962 residences have been allotted to poor freedom fighters across the country under a project titled 'Construction of residences for landless and poor freedom fighters' at an estimated cost of Tk 271.11 crore for the period of January, 2012 to June, 2018 by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs through the Directorate of Local Government Engineering. is given
In continuation of this, the current government under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, the project titled 'Construction of Housing for Indigent Heroic Freedom Fighters (1st Revised)' is under implementation for the period of 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2024 at an estimated cost of Tk 6096.5325 crore. Through this project, the program of providing housing facilities to 30,000 brave freedom fighters/families across the country is ongoing. Beneficiaries are being selected at a specific proportional rate of upazila-wise existing brave freedom fighters under this.
Under that project, construction of 11 thousand 57 houses has been completed so far. At present, the construction work of 10 thousand 889 Bir Niwas is going on.
