The headmaster resigned due to students' movement in Feni

Shamim Akhtar, Headmaster of Martyr Major Salahuddin Mumtaz Bir Uttam High School of Feni town, has resigned in the face of student agitation. On Sunday (August 18) afternoon, in the presence of teachers and students of the school, he signed the resignation letter and handed over the responsibility to the senior teacher of the same school, Archana Rani Chakraborty.

Earlier, the students started protesting around 11 am this morning demanding the resignation of the headmaster and a politics-free school, alleging political influence, corruption and irregularities. Meanwhile, they blocked the head teacher Shamim Akhtar and other teachers in the teacher's auditorium for 3 hours. Later Shamima Akhtar was forced to resign under the pressure of students.

Saidul Islam, a protesting student, said, “Headmaster Shamim Akhtar is the leader of a political party. He became the head teacher here on party identity. After his arrival, far from improvement, the school deteriorated. By showing party influence, he did many irregularities and corruption in the school. That's why we voiced our demand for his resignation and a politics-free educational environment.'

Another student named Mithila said, 'Even though he is a woman, he harassed the female students of the school several times. He used to tell us to drop our studies and get married and have a family. Where a teacher would encourage learning, he was the complete opposite.'

A parent named Shahidul Islam said, 'Whenever I came to this teacher because of my daughter's studies, I was hurt by his arrogance and arbitrariness. He did not respect anyone. Glad to hear of his resignation. I strongly demand to increase the quality of school education by appointing a qualified teacher.

After resigning, head teacher Shamim Akhter said, 'I am a victim of the situation. Had to be forced to do politics. The allegations against me are not true. If I am given another chance, I will work to improve the quality of education above party opinion. I have handed over my responsibility to the senior teacher Archana Rani in the situation that arose based on the complaints of the students.'

Acting head teacher Archana Rani Chakraborty said, 'I am not eligible for this post in any way. It is not a pleasant thing to get responsibility like this. Under the circumstances students forcefully suggested my name. In view of the demands of the students, I will try my best to fulfill the responsibility assigned to me. I want everyone's cooperation.'

Feni district secondary education officer Md. Shafi Ullah said, 'I came to know about the matter through the upazila education officer. So far no one has specifically informed about this from the school. Very soon we will send a representative to visit the school. The higher authorities will be informed of the overall matter along with their report. We will implement the decision given by the authorities.'
