Two dead bodies, including a juvenile, recovered from Sharon Para area of Bandarban Sadar Upazila Sualak Union have been identified. Their names are Thang Pui Bom (15) and Lal Nu Bom (22). Police say both are members of the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF).
On Thursday (May 23) at 5:30 pm, the police of Bandarban Sadar police station recovered two bodies and sent them to Bandarban Sadar Hospital morgue.
Karbari (village head) of Sharon Ward Tloang Thon Bom gave the names and address of the deceased, the deceased are Lal Nu Bom, son of Pen Khup Bom of Sharon Ward and Thang Pui Bom, son of Jar Thang Bom of Bethany Ward. Thang Pui Bom was a fifth grader.
Locals said that since Thursday morning, joint force members have been seen in the vicinity of Bandarban Sadar Farooq Para, Getshimani Para and Sharon Para. Later gunshots were heard. In the afternoon, the police recovered the bullet-ridden bodies of two people from the Sharon neighborhood.
Jewel Tripura, a doctor in charge of the hospital's emergency department, said that the Sadar police station brought two bodies to the morgue. An autopsy will be conducted on the two bodies.
Bandarban District Police Additional Superintendent of Police Hoshain Md. Raihan Kazemi said that the bodies of two KNF members who were killed in the operation of joint forces in Sharon Para area were recovered and sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital Morgue. After the post-mortem, the two bodies will be handed over to the family through legal process.
Earlier, 3 people were killed in the operations of joint forces in Debachra area on Ruma-Roangchari border on May 19, one in remote Darjeeling neighborhood of Ruma upazila on May 7, 2 people in Remakri Prangsa union of Ruma upazila on April 28, and one KNF armed member died in remote Munlai neighborhood of Ruma upazila on April 22. Arms-ammunition and various tools used by KNF armed terrorists were recovered from the spot.
It should be noted that on April 2 and 3, KNF members robbed a bank in Ruma and Thanchi upazilas of Bandarban. At the same time, 14 weapons and 415 bullets were looted from the police and Ansar members engaged in bank security. After this incident, a coordinated operation is being conducted to recover weapons and arrest KNF members. So far 9 KNF members have been killed in the operation and 87 people including 25 women have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident.
