The names of 6 candidates have been announced in Iran's presidential election

The names of six candidates have been finally announced to compete in Iran's 14th presidential election. Like the last election, former president Mahmud Ahmadinejad has been excluded from the list of candidates.

The presidential election will be held in the country on June 28 as the president of Iran Ibrahim Raisi was recently killed in a helicopter accident. The list of 6 candidates approved by the Guardian Council to participate in this election has been released. The list was published by the Ministry of Interior of Iran.

This information was informed in a report of Iran International on Sunday.

It said that the six candidates approved by the Guardian Council were all men and most of them were senior government officials. Saeed Jalili, who is on the list, served as the representative of the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in Iran's Supreme National Security Council. Among others, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf currently serves as the speaker of the country's parliament, and Masoud Pezeshkhian is known as a reformist MP.

The other three are the country's former justice and interior minister, Mostafa Pourmohammadi, current vice president Amir Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi, and Tehran's mayor Alireza Zakani, known as a radical.

According to the list, several high profile personalities have not been allowed to contest the elections this time. Among them are the country's former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, former parliament speaker Ali Larizani and former vice president Ishaq Jahangiri.

According to Articles 131 and 132 of Iran's constitution, a new president must be elected within 50 days if a president dies or becomes incapacitated. The Ministry of Home Affairs of the country performs the main responsibility of organizing and conducting the elections. However, the responsibility of scrutinizing the candidature lies with the Guardian or Guardian Council.

President Ibrahim Raisi was killed in a helicopter accident on May 19.

It should be noted that the election campaign will start from June 12. Which will continue till June 27.
