The number of dead in the flood increased to 31, affected 5.8 million people

Four more people have lost their lives due to ongoing floods in 11 districts of the country. With this, the number of people killed in the ongoing flood has increased to 31. 12 of them are from Comilla. Besides, 6 died in Noakhali, 5 in Chittagong, 3 in Cox's Bazar, 2 in Feni and one each in Khagrachari, Brahmanbaria and Laxmipur. More than 5.8 lakh people have been affected in these districts by the floods which lasted for more than a week.

This information has been confirmed in the report of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief till 1 pm on Wednesday (August 28).

According to the report, 11 districts of the country have been affected by flash floods due to continuous rains and floods. The districts are Feni, Comilla, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Laxmipur and Cox's Bazar. 73 upazilas and 528 unions and municipalities of these districts have been affected by the flood.

A total of 12 lakh 27 thousand 554 families are trapped in water in 11 flood affected districts. The number of affected people is 58 lakh 22 thousand 734. 31 people have died so far, of which 12 have died in Comilla. Besides, 2 people died in Feni, 5 people in Chittagong, 1 person in Khagrachari, 6 people in Noakhali, 1 person in Brahmanbaria, 1 person in Lakshmipur and 3 people in Cox's Bazar.

A total of 4,300 shelters have been opened to provide shelter to water-logged and affected people and a total of 5,40,510 people have taken shelter in them. Also 39 thousand 531 cattle have been sheltered in the centers. A total of 619 medical teams are operational to provide medical care to the victims of 11 districts.

It was informed in the press conference that 88,500 packets of dry food, clothes and water collected by the anti-discrimination student movement have so far been sent to the flood-affected areas through the Directorate of Disaster Management (DDM).
