The price of LPG gas is reduced Bangladesh Diplomat

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices have come down at the consumer level. The price of 12 kg cylinder has been reduced from Tk 1,482 to Tk 49 to Tk 1,1393. The announced new rates will be effective from 6 pm today, Thursday.

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced a new price reduction on Thursday (May 2).

According to the announcement, the retail price of private LPG has been fixed at Tk 116 per kg at the consumer level including Musak. Private LPG supplied in liquid form in reticulated system has been fixed at Tk 112 per kg inclusive of price.

BERC has been fixing LPG prices since April 2021. Propane and butane, the main ingredients for making LPG, are imported from different countries. Saudi Arabian company Aramco publishes the prices of these two components of LPG every month.

This is known as Saudi Cargo Price (CP). BERC adjusts LPG prices in the country based on this Saudi CP base price. BERC calculates the dollar price for the entire month by averaging the invoice price of the importing company.

Various sizes of gas cylinders are available in the market starting from 5.5 kg to 45 kg. Apart from household cooking, LPG is also being used in restaurants, transport, small and large industries. More than 99 percent of this market is occupied by the private sector.
