Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will return home today after a six-day official visit to Thailand. Sources in the Prime Minister's Press Wing said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to leave Bangkok on Monday morning (local time).”

Sheikh Hasina arrived there on April 24 afternoon as part of a bilateral and multilateral visit to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Sretha Thavisin.

Sheikh Hasina was accorded a warm red carpet welcome when she arrived at the Don Mueang International Airport. There he was given 19 times cannon fire and guard of honour. The Prime Minister described the visit as part of a broader focus on the 'neighbourhood' policy.

Because, it has provided an excellent opportunity for the two countries to further renew the momentum of bilateral relations. He further said that this visit will go a long way in deepening the relationship between the two countries.

At the lunch meeting hosted by the Thai Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina said that she firmly believes that the visit will give the much-needed impetus to the development of bilateral relations to their full potential.

He further said, 'This official visit will be a milestone in our bilateral relations. It ushers in a new era of fruitful partnership between our two countries. We must maintain this momentum of renewal of relations in the future for the mutual benefit of our people and country.'

During the visit, on April 26, Bangladesh Prime Minister discussed issues of bilateral interest with Thai Prime Minister Thavisin at Government House (Prime Minister's Office). In the presence of both leaders, five bilateral documents were signed to strengthen bilateral relations between Southeast Asian and South Asian countries.

The documents are: a contract, three memoranda of understanding (MOU) and a letter of intent. The document also includes an agreement on visa exemption for government passport holders, a memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation, cooperation and mutual assistance on customs and cooperation in tourism, and a letter of intent to negotiate a free trade agreement (FTA) by 2024.

Sheikh Hasina also attended the official lunch hosted by the Thai Prime Minister at Government House. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was given a warm red carpet welcome at the open space in front of Thai Kuh Fah Bhawan on her arrival at the Government House.

Sheikh Hasina attended the 80th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNSCAP) on April 25. In his speech at this session, he urged all world leaders to stop war, aggression and aggression and urged them to say 'no' to war. He said that sustainable development is a prerequisite for lasting peace and security.

He emphasized on de-escalation of regional disputes and tensions through dialogue, saying that dialogue can bring peace.

United Nations Under-Secretary General and ESCAP Executive Secretary Armida Salsiah Alizabana met the Prime Minister at the UNSCAP conference venue.

On the same day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid a courtesy call on Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajira-Klaucha-Uuya and Queen Suthida Vajrasudha-Bimala-Lakshan at the Amphorn Southern Throne Hall of Dusit Palace.
