After 8 long days, Noakhali has seen sunshine. Even though the water has started coming down to the Meghna river, two million people are still stuck in water.
On Friday (August 23) morning, the sun was seen at various places in the district including Subarnachar.
The District Meteorological Office says that it has been raining continuously since August 16. This increases the waterlogging and as the Muhuri river enters it, it turns into a flood. 71 mm of rainfall was recorded till 9 am on Friday.
It is known that the flood situation in Noakhali is deteriorating day by day due to continuous rain. 2 million people are trapped in water. More than 40 thousand people have settled in about 4 hundred shelters. Besides, thousands of fish projects of 8 upazilas, chicken farms, Aman's seedbeds, vegetable fields were swept away by the flood and raw plants were broken by the stormy winds. Some areas have been left without electricity due to uprooted electricity poles.
Resident of Subarnachar. Abu Said said, Alhamdulillah. There is a glimmer of sunshine in the sky of Suvarnachar. We are very happy. May Allah help us.
Companiganj Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Anwar Hossain Patwari said, Companyganj is fairly good considering all the water pressure from rainfall, tides and fog. The tide is starting. Sonagazi regulator has been commissioned, Muchapur regulator will be commissioned shortly. The flow of water is normal. Although the water pressure in the Danganbhuiya section has increased slightly, the discharge flow through the Ceylonia River is sufficient. For now, some fears have subsided. The next flood scenario depends on the heavy rainfall and water pressure in India.
Urging everyone to come forward, he said that almost everyone in Companyganj is still under water. Keep track of all the people trapped in water in the vicinity, including shelters. Water is now in most people's kitchens. Watch out for them. Continue the example of social harmony you have shown in the last two days. Trust in God.
Deputy Commissioner Dewan Mahbubur Rahman said, we got some relief after seeing the sun. However, the people of 8 upazilas are still water tight. We distributed 505 metric tons of rice and about Tk. 25 lakh as humanitarian aid. Our relief assistance program continues for water stranded and displaced people.
