The United Nations is joining the process of fact-finding into gross human rights abuses in the conflict surrounding the movement to reform the quota and subsequently topple the government.
A three-member UN delegation arrived in Dhaka on Thursday to discuss how the fact-finding mission will work. This morning the delegation met Foreign Secretary Masoud Bin Momen at his office.
After the talks, head of delegation Rory Mungoven said there had been preliminary and pre-exploratory discussions on how they could assist the interim government.
He said, our team is a small pre-research team. I have come to discuss how we can help the government and the people of Bangladesh at this historic time.
He said that our team that is visiting Bangladesh this week is not an investigation team; It is a pre-investigation team. We will talk to the interim government, advisors, several ministries and civil society to inform them of your priority needs and try to reach a decision on how the Office of the High Commissioner can help.
