The water level of Padma river has increased in Rajshahi

After opening all the gates of India's Farakka dam, the water level of Padma river rose by 3 cm in 24 hours in Rajshahi. The water height at Rajshahi Point was 16.30 meters yesterday on Wednesday morning at 9 am. At 9 am on Thursday, the water level has increased to 16.33 meters.

According to the information of Rajshahi Water Development Board (PUBO), the height of water at Rajshahi Point was found to be 16.32 meters at 6 am today. After three hours at 9 am this height stands at 16.33 meters.

The water level at Rajshahi Point remained unchanged from 3 pm last Monday to 6 pm yesterday. In all those days the water of Padma flowed at a height of 16.30 meters. Earlier last Monday at 6 am, the height of water at Rajshahi Point was 16.29 meters. The water level of Padma river in Rajshahi is 18 meters. Till that time the water of Padma was flowing 1.67 meters below the danger line at the point.

Enamul Haque, gauge reader of Rajshahi Water Development Board, said, “We have also heard about the opening of the gates of Farakka Dam.” I assume that water has not yet come to this Padma. But naturally the water of Padma has increased. In the last 12 hours, the water level at Dargapara point in Rajshahi has increased by 3 cm. The height of the water was 16.30 cm last at 6 pm.

Sahidul Islam, a member of Harian Union No. 8 (Char Khidipur) of Paba Upazila of Rajshahi said, Padma has been breached in Madhyachar. Flood water entered Khidirpur Char. Panic has spread among Char residents. Some are moving to the locality. Many people are not able to come for cattle and other goods.

All 109 gates of the Farakka barrage in Murshidabad district of West Bengal state were opened last Saturday as the water level in the Ganga in Bihar, India rose at an unusual rate.
