Forest, environment and climate advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that the word missing should be banished forever. Those involved in the disappearance will be prosecuted.
He said this at a function in Shahbag on the occasion of World Day for Prevention of Missing Persons on Friday (August 30) afternoon.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that everyone should be careful not to build a mirror house to sustain a government. The culprits should be found with the combined efforts of all. In another event on the same day, the Environment Adviser said there would be no shortage of goodwill from the interim government to find everyone who went missing.
Adviser on Forest, Environment and Climate said, “So that no one goes missing again, we have signed the international agreement against missing people.” It means making sure that no one goes missing in order to usurp power, suppress dissent.
Incidentally, the government has set up an inquiry commission to find out how many people have gone missing at the hands of law and order forces in the last 16 years. On Tuesday (August 27), the Cabinet Department issued a notification for the formation of a 5-member committee headed by Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury. The members of the committee are – Retired Judge of the High Court Division. Farid Ahmed Shibli, human rights activist Noor Khan, BRAC University teacher Ms. Nabila Idris and human rights activist Sajjad Hossain.
According to the notification, from January 1, 2010 to August 5 this year, law enforcement agencies namely Bangladesh Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Special Branch, Intelligence Branch, Ansar Battalion , National Intelligence Agency (NSI), Defense Forces, Directorate General of Defense Intelligence (DGFI), Coast Guard, any member of any law enforcement and enforcement agency of the country, to search for, identify and determine the circumstances under which the persons have been forcibly disappeared. .
Details of cases of enforced disappearance should be submitted to the concerned authorities and recommendations made in this regard. If missing persons are found, their relatives should be informed. Collecting information from investigations conducted by another agency or organization into the incident of disappearance. According to the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1956, after the investigation, the report must be submitted to the government within 45 working days.
The notification also stated that the chairman of the commission would be a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court and the members would enjoy the status of a judge of the High Court Division and other privileges.
