Top eight officials including 6 DMDs of Islami Bank have been dismissed

The bank has sacked eight top officials of Islami Bank, owned by S Alam Group. After the fall of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina, they were dismissed under pressure from the officials.

Among these are one Additional Managing Director (AMD) and five Deputy Managing Directors (DMD). The remaining two are heads of two departments of the bank.

All the sacked officials are said to be close to S Alam Group owner Saiful Alam. Among them are Saiful Alam's private secretary Akiz Uddin and Miftah Uddin who is in charge of Islami Bank's loans. Both of them were Deputy Managing Directors (DMDs) of the bank. These two officers looked after the bank's loan disbursement and human resource matters.

According to bank sources, among the dismissed officers are Additional Managing Director JQM Habibullah, Deputy Managing Director Md. Akiz Uddin, Mohammad Sabbir, Miftah Uddin, Kazi Md. Rezaul Karim and Md. Abdullah Al Mamun.

Apart from this, Chief Anti Money Laundering Officer (CAMELCO) Taher Ahmed Chowdhury and Principal of the Training Institute. The bank has dismissed Nazrul Islam.

Incidentally, since the fall of the government, the bank officials have been continuing the movement to 'liberate S Alam and Patia'. They are demanding the dissolution of the board of directors of the bank as well as the prosecution of the officers involved in the irregularities in disbursement of loans. In view of that, the bank has dismissed eight top officials of the bank.

It is to be noted that in 2017, the S Alam Group, a business group close to the recently deposed Awami League government, took control of the ownership and management of Islami Bank as an initiative to 'liberate Islami Bank' in the political decision of the Awami League government in 2017.
