A fire broke out in the hydraulic brake of the Rajshahi-bound 'Silk City Express' train at Mirzapur in Tangail. At least 10 people were injured while rushing down in panic.

The incident took place on Friday (April 26) afternoon at Mahera Railway Station in Mirzapur Upazila on the Bangabandhu Bridge Rail Link Road. After about 1 hour and 25 minutes, the train left for Rajshahi.

Related and local sources said that in the afternoon Silk City Express was stopped at Mahera station for Dhaka-bound Kurigram Express crossing. Meanwhile, some passengers of the 'T' compartment of the train got down and saw fire in the hydraulic brake. When news of the fire spread, panicked passengers tried to jump off the train, injuring at least 10 people. Later the train officials brought the fire under control.

Mahera Railway Station Master Sohail Khan said the Silk City Express train was stopped at the station for crossing. The friction of the wheels in the heat caused the fire from the hydraulic brakes while stopping the Silkcity Express. No major accident occurred as the passengers found out immediately. First aid was given to some of the injured people who jumped down from the train. The train left for Rajshahi after 1 hour and 25 minutes at 6:25 PM.
