Two people including husband have been ordered to be hanged for killing his wife in Narail

The court has ordered the husband and one of his friends to be hanged for killing his wife Achia Begum (22) in Sharatala village of Auria Union of Narail Sadar Upazila. He also fined each of them one lakh taka. In another section (Section 201), the court awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Tk 20,000 to both of them, in default of one year rigorous imprisonment.

District and Sessions Judge Almach Hossain Mridha announced the verdict on Thursday (August 29).

The convicts are – husband Roni Sheikh (26) and his friend Mehdi Hasan Hriday alias Abbas Fakir (24). Roni is the son of Liton Sheikh Litu of Sharatala village and Abbas is the son of Jamir Hussain Fakir of the same village. The accused were present in court when the verdict was announced. At this time, the relatives of the accused burst into tears.

According to the details of the case, on the morning of November 4, 2022, Achia Begum, a housewife, was killed by her husband by slitting her throat in Sharatala village of Narail Sadar upazila due to alienation. Later, after pouring petrol in the house and setting it on fire, Abbas, along with his accomplice, escaped. Later the police arrested them and sent them to jail. Roni Sheikh married Achia Begum of the same village four years ago. Roni takes dowry from Achiya's father during the marriage. In addition, he also built a house on nine hundred acres of land. Rony used to work in the field at a mobile phone company.

In this incident, Achia Begum's mother Rebecca Begum filed a murder case at Narail Sadar police station as the plaintiff. After taking the testimony of 27 people, the court announced this verdict as the incident was proved.
