UP chairman sacked for embezzlement of relief in Habiganj


Shibpasha Union Parishad Chairman Md. Alleged embezzlement of money and rice of flood victims in Ajmiriganj upazila of Habiganj district. Naliur Rahman has been temporarily suspended.

Habiganj local government department deputy director Prabhanshu Som Mahan confirmed this information on Thursday (March 21) afternoon.

Earlier, UP Chairman Naliur Rahman was accused of misappropriating money and rice in two stages from flood-affected, jobless, poor and distressed families in the financial year 2020-23.

The district administration's investigation confirmed the allegations and on February 8, Habiganj Deputy Commissioner Jilufa Sultana wrote to the Secretary of the Local Government Department of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and recommended action against him.

Deputy Director of Local Government Department Prabhanshu Som Mahan said that UP Chairman Noliur Rahman Talukder has been temporarily suspended by the Ministry of Local Government after finding the truth of the complaint. Habiganj district administration has received a letter regarding this.
According to the investigation report and the reply given by the UP secretary to the district administration, in June 2022, 14 metric tons of rice and 45 thousand 100 taka were allotted to the flood victims in Shivpasha Union Parishad. Parishad chairman Noliur Rahman Talukdar distributed rice but did not distribute any money. The master roll takes his own responsibility and picks up the check signed by himself.
