Warriors Work Out Veteran Power Forward For Possible Training Camp Deal

The Golden State Warriors are pulling out all the stops to enter the 2024-25 season with their best roster possible.

The Warriors may not be the powerhouse they used to be, but they are doing their best to bolster the roster less than two months before the start of the season.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Warriors have invited NBA sharpshooter Dāvis Bertāns to work out for the team in an attempt to secure a training camp invitation.

Bertāns has become a name to watch for the Warriors, and if things turn out well, he could be a vital piece for Golden State this upcoming season.

BSA Basketball CEO Arturs Kalnitis, who is also Bertāns’ agent, said that Bertāns “will prepare for the upcoming season together with the [Golden State Warriors].”

The 31-year-old is without a team as training camp is set to commence in a couple of weeks, and the Warriors could be in line for Bertāns. The Latvia native has played a crucial role for the five teams he’s been a part of, spanning eight seasons in the league.

The sharpshooter has averaged 7.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game while shooting 42.2 percent from the field and 39.6 percent from deep in 475 career games.

Bertāns has played for the San Antonio Spurs, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Charlotte Hornets. The 31-year-old was drafted by the Indiana Pacers with the No. 42 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. His rights were immediately traded to the San Antonio Spurs, along with the rights to 15th overall pick Kawhi Leonard for George Hill.

However,Bertāns decided to leave for Serbian club Partisan Belgrade and spent the next four seasons playing overseas before he signed with the Spurs in the summer of 2016. After three seasons with the Spurs, he was traded to the Wizards in a three-team deal that included the Brooklyn Nets.

Bertāns signed a five-year, $80 million deal prior to the start of the 2020-21 season. After three seasons, he was traded to the Mavericks and then bounced from the Thunder to the Hornets, with whom he finished off the 2023-24 campaign.

Bertāns appeared in 43 games last season, averaging 6.7 points, and shooting 38 percent from deep.

The Warriors will open training camp on Oct. 1 in Hawaii.
