Chairman of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) Jalal Ahmed said that gas and electricity prices will not increase in the country immediately.
He said the previous government bypassed the Energy Regulatory Commission and increased the price of gas and electricity by executive orders. But the current interim government canceled the hike in gas and electricity prices in an executive order. The Energy Regulatory Commission will do the price hike. For this the Commission has a pricing mechanism. You have to follow that process.
The Chairman of BERC said this in response to the questions of the journalists in the chief guest's speech at the discussion meeting titled 'Flood and inundation in Khoai basin, causes and actions' organized by Khoai River Water Keeper and environmentalist organizations at Habiganj Press Club on Sunday (August 26).
Jalal Ahmed said Quick Rental had a three-year contract for power generation. But many have not properly adjusted the price while renewing their contracts. These irregularities will be investigated. The contract will continue with those who are providing electricity as per the contract. Others will be cancelled.
He said, efforts will be made to adopt a new plan for the canceled development project of 2 thousand crore rupees on the Khoai River and the old Khoai River. By looking at the CS and RS maps and determining the location of the river and listing who is inside the river and who is outside, many will be forced to leave the area of the river. Awareness program should be done so that no one throws garbage in the river.
Environment activist Kavi Tahmina Begum Gini presided over and Khoai River Waterkeeper Tofazzal Sohel presented the concept paper.
