15 people died in a landslide in Indonesia


15 people were killed in a landslide on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. The landslide occurred in the mountainous region of Sulawesi island on Saturday night due to adverse weather conditions. At least 15 people died in the landslide. Two others are missing in this incident. Aljazeera said in a report.

Due to hostile weather and extensive damage to the roads, the rescue work cannot be carried out properly. However, in the meantime, the rescue workers are continuing to search for life in the collapsed area with a special method.

According to media reports, the landslide occurred due to heavy rains in Tana Taraja and its surrounding areas over the past week.

Regarding the incident, local police chief Gunardi Mundu said that a family event was going on in a house in the village sometime before midnight on Saturday. Meanwhile, some parts of the village were completely buried in the mud that fell from the mountain.

Indonesian Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesman Abdul Muhari said in a statement that the landslide occurred due to heavy rains. Two villages in Tana Taraja area were damaged and four houses destroyed in the landslide. Due to the hilly nature of the disaster affected area, it is becoming difficult for the rescuers to reach there. In the meantime, rescuers are continuing to search for life in the rubble with special methods.

Sulaiman Maila, head of the local disaster mitigation agency, told AFP on Sunday that a total of 17 people were rescued from the landslide. 15 of them were found dead.

The picture sent by the officials associated with the rescue work shows that the disaster-affected area is becoming difficult for the rescuers to reach due to its hilly nature. In the meantime, rescuers are continuing to search for life in the rubble with special methods.

Monsoon season has started in Indonesia since January. Among them, at least 26 people died in floods and landslides in Sumatra island last month.
