It is said that the rescue forces are making efforts to rescue those trapped in the flood. So far 18 thousand people have been evacuated to safe places. Adding further concern to this flood situation is the weather forecast. The India Meteorological Department said that rains may continue in Gujarat for the next two days.
According to the state government, Gujarat has received 105 percent more rainfall this year than the annual average. That is why this flood situation. The state has 140 reservoirs and dams and 24 rivers flowing above the danger line. Water has been released from Ajwa and Pratappura reservoirs due to continuous rains. That is why the areas on both banks of Vishwamaitri river have been flooded. Several cities including Vadodara have accumulated 10-12 feet of water.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel over the phone on Wednesday morning. He assured all help to deal with the flood situation.
