300 pro-Palestinian protesters arrested in New York

Police arrested 300 pro-Palestinian protesters from Columbia University in New York and the City University of New York.

The mayor of New York called the protesters outsiders. Reuters reported this information in a report on Wednesday.

New York Mayor Eric Adams said a “massive operation” was launched at the request of Columbia University authorities to evacuate those who occupied one of the halls.

At the press conference, the mayor said about 300 people were arrested at Columbia University and the City University of New York after police officers raided the campuses last night. The incident was blamed on outsiders, who tried to radicalise the 'youth'.

New York Police Deputy Commissioner Rebecca Weiner said, “Some of the protesters have been identified. They were linked to earlier protests in New York and other cities.'

Meanwhile, pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel protesters clashed at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). A heavy police presence is currently deployed on the campus. However, the protesters were removed from the clash site. Police have surrounded the entire area with metal barricades.
