The traveling court of the district administration has seized 624 sacks of Indian sugar illegally imported by evading customs duty in Rupganj of Narayanganj. The estimated market value of seized Indian sugar is Tk 39 lakh.
With the help of police administration, RAB and law enforcement agencies, this raid was conducted on the afternoon of Saturday (May 4) in the warehouse of a business named Dewan Enterprise in Nayanagar area of the upazila.
Later, the executive magistrate of the mobile court imposed a fine of Tk 1 lakh on the accused owner of Dewan Enterprise under Section 191 (j) of the Agricultural Marketing Act 2018.
Confirming the matter, District Administration Executive Magistrate and Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Robin Mia said that the seized goods have been kept in the custody of the local ward councilor for auction. The seized goods will be auctioned if a suitable price is obtained.
