70 villages flooded in Feni again due to flood, 13 thousand families are trapped in water

Incessant rains and landslides caused water to enter the locality through 24 places of the broken dams of Muhuri, Kahua and Silonia rivers in Feni. 70 villages of Parashuram and Fulgazi upazilas have been flooded and 13 thousand families have been trapped in water. Road communication is closed. On Tuesday (August 20), Muhuri river water is flowing 55 cm above the boundary line.

According to Feni district administration and water development board sources, water enters 70 villages of Parashuram and Fulgazi upazilas through 24 places before the flood control dam of Muhuri, Kahua and Cilonia rivers in Feni. 13,000 families have become watertight. 310 mm rainfall was recorded in the last 24 hours which is the highest ever.

Vehicular movement has been stopped due to knee-deep water in Fulgazi upazila market on the Feni-Parashuram regional highway. Since Tuesday afternoon, as the flood water has increased, the locals are seen taking small children in their arms and moving to safer places in boats to save their lives.

In this regard, Feni Deputy Commissioner Muchammat Shahina Akhtar said that the flood-affected areas of Parashuram and Fulgazi upazilas have security and necessary information systems. All measures are being taken locally through Upazila Nirbahi Officer.

Sadar Union of Fulgazi Ghanimora village farmer Md. Jamal Uddin said, on the way from my house, there was a mouthful of water and waist-length water in the house. I had three cows, one cow died after drowning. The rest also go away. I have never seen so much water in my 45 years.

According to the local residents, every year there are several flood waters that cause extensive damage. Due to the negligence of the Water Development Board, we have been drowning several times this month. We don't want relief, we want to build a permanent dam.

Executive Engineer of Feni Water Development Board. Rashed Shahriar said that the water entered the locality through 24 places of the broken dam in the east due to continuous rains and hill slopes coming down from the upstream. The dams will be repaired when the water recedes.
