Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has claimed that more than 80,000 Ukrainian military officers and members have been killed in the operation of the Russian army since January 1 of this year. In addition to this, he said that the Russian troops destroyed more than 14 thousand armored vehicles, military equipment and installations of the Ukrainian army, including 1 thousand 200 tanks. He gave this information at a conference in Moscow on Tuesday (April 2).
He said that during this period, the Russian troops were able to rescue 403 square kilometers of territory from the clutches of the Ukrainian forces.
In his speech, Shoigu said, Ukraine has not had any success in the battlefield in the last two years. But they are still trying to convince their Western sponsors that they have the ability to defeat Russian defense forces. And as part of this effort, instead of fighting Russian forces, they are now fomenting terrorism, using long-range missiles to attack Russian territory, and targeting civilians. However, our military forces are always active in preventing these attacks and their performance in this regard so far has been commendable.
In the conference, the Russian Defense Minister said that only in March, the Russian forces carried out 190 small to medium and 2 large attacks targeting the Ukrainian army and various military installations. Short and medium range missiles and drones were used in these attacks.
It should be noted that in last March, the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced in a statement that in the two years from February 2022 to February 2024, a total of 444,000 Ukrainian army officers were killed. The previous month in February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed to have lost only 31,000 troops.
