The police recovered the body of fisherman Monir Hossain (30), who went missing in a collision between FB Safwan-1 trawler and FB Turna trawler in the Patharghata launch ghat canal of Barguna after 7 hours.
The police recovered his body from Launchghat area around 5:30 pm on Sunday (May 5). The deceased Monir is the son of Hafizullah alias Hafez of Lakshmipur district.
Eyewitness fisherman Kamal Hossain said that two trawlers FB Tourna and FB Safwan were anchored at Patharghata launch ghat. Around 10:30 am the trawler FB Turna collided with the trawler FB Safwan-1 which was standing by. Meanwhile, the fisherman of Safwan trawler, Monir Hossain, fell into the canal and went missing. Since then local people have been trying to rescue him by throwing nets in the canal. Later, the members of the fire service came and took part in the rescue operation.
Patharghata station leader of fire service. Ruhul Quddus said, we started the rescue operation after receiving information from the locals. After searching until noon, I could not find him. His body was recovered by the police around 5:30 pm.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Patharghata Police Station. Al Mamun said, I informed the relatives after recovering the body. The body will be sent for post-mortem to Barguna General Hospital on Monday.
