Glimpse of low pressure in Bay of Bengal, danger of cyclone

A low pressure is likely to develop over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas by tomorrow Wednesday, the Meteorological Department said. The meteorologist fears that the low pressure may turn into a cyclone. Manowar Hossain.

The meteorologist said that by Wednesday, the formation of a low pressure over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas could store more energy. Then it can turn into a cyclone. However, the direction cannot be said now.

According to the Meteorological Office, the current conditions in the Bay of Bengal are the same as the temperature of sea water required to form a cyclone.

Meanwhile, Khulna-Barisal section including Rajshahi, Pabna, Dinajpur and Nilphamari is experiencing mild to moderate heat wave. However, scattered rains are likely across the country including the capital.

According to a weather forecast, day and night temperatures may drop in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. Elsewhere, temperatures may remain unchanged.

The extended five-day forecast says that the rainfall trend may increase during this period.

Apart from this, in a forecast given for the internal river ports of the country from five in the morning to one in the afternoon, the Department of Meteorology has given a glimpse of stormy winds and thundershowers in 12 regions.

The notification signed by Hafizur Rahman said- Rain or thundershower with speed of 45 to 60 km per hour from west or north-west over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Dhaka, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna and Sylhet regions temporarily. A gale may blow. The river ports in these areas have been asked to show the number one warning signal.

The forecast for the next 72 hours (3 days) from 6 pm on Monday (May 20) says that the low pressure extension extends from West Bengal to Northwest Bay of Bengal. The forecast for the next 24 hours from 6:00 PM on Monday has said that there may be temporary rain or thunderstorm with gusty winds in many places of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barisal divisions and in some places of Dhaka, Chittagong, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. Also there may be scattered hail at some places.

Apart from this, day and night temperatures may decrease by (1-2) degrees Celsius in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and may remain almost unchanged in other parts of the country.

The forecast for the next 24 hours from 6:00 PM on Tuesday has said that there may be temporary rain or thunder with gusty winds in many places of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet divisions and in some places of Chittagong division. Day and night temperatures may remain almost unchanged across the country.
