The prices of potatoes, onions and eggs have increased again

Compared to last week, the prices of potatoes, onions and eggs have increased again in the markets of the capital. Also, the prices of several products including green chillies, ginger and garlic have increased. However, the price of rice, dal and flour remains the same as before. On Friday (May 31), such information was obtained by visiting the capital, Malibagh, Segunbagicha and Karwan Bazar.

Retail traders claim that the price of potatoes has increased at the freezer gate, which has affected the retail market. And due to the reduced supply due to the cyclone, the prices of green chillies and vegetables are higher. The price of eggs has increased due to the death of chickens in summer. And due to the low import of Indian onion, the demand for domestic onion is high, so the price has increased.

Traders said that despite the permission to import, onions are coming from India less. As a result, the dependence on desi onions has increased. The price is also increasing. Onion price has increased by Tk 10 per kg in a week. Retailers are selling onions at Tk 70 to Tk 80 per kg depending on the standard.

On the pretext of shortage in supply, the market of raw chillies has been on the rise for a month. According to standards, raw chillies are being sold at Tk 160 to Tk 200 per kg. Even a month ago, raw chillies were sold at Tk 70 to Tk 100 per kg. As such, the price has doubled in a month.
