Goods will be sent by alternative route to Saint Martin

Cox's Bazar district administration has taken the initiative to send goods through alternative routes to avoid food crisis in Saint Martin.

From Friday (June 14), cargo trawlers will ply from the BIWTA wharf at Nunyarchhara in Cox's Bazar.

However, on Thursday (June 13) some products will be sent by 5 trawlers from Gholarchar point of Shahpari Island in Teknaf. After that, products will go from Cox's Bazar from Friday.

Additional District Magistrate of Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner Yamin Hossain informed about this decision on Wednesday (June 12) night.

He said that since trawlers are being fired upon in Nafnadi, it has been decided to send goods from Cox's Bazar as an alternative route. There is no shortage of safety on this route. He also said that the movement of people is also being normalized in limited form. Those who need to travel to Teknaf on an urgent basis will be given the opportunity to travel from Gholarchar on Shahpari Island in a specific trawler with the help of the Coast Guard. However, limited trawlers will ply this route only during high tides.

Since June 5, trawlers have been fired from across Myanmar in the Nafna River on the Teknaf-Saint Martin route. Trawlers and speedboats have been closed since June 7 due to continuous firing. Since then all communication with Saint Martin has been cut off.
