The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has seized the bank accounts of former parliamentarians Sheikh Helal Uddin and Sheikh Sarhan Naser, cousins ​​of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. At the same time, the organization has suspended the bank account transactions of the businesses owned by them.

On Monday (August 19), BFIU sent instructions in this regard to banks and financial institutions in the country.

According to BFIU instructions, all transactions through these individual and business accounts will be closed. For the next 30 days, no transactions should be made as such. If necessary, this period of suspending the transaction will be extended.

BFIU's letter said that relevant provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Rules will apply to this order to suspend transactions. In the letter, names of Sheikh Helal Uddin, his son Sheikh Sarhan Naser Tanmoy and younger daughter Sheikh Fazila Sharmeen, national identity cards are given.

The BFIU directive further states that banks and financial institutions have been asked to send account-related information or documents such as account opening form, KYC and transaction statement etc. to them within 5 working days from the date of the letter in case of suspension of an account.
