The DC who said 'If you shoot, one dies, the rest don't go' is now in DB custody

Former Home Minister said about the shooting of protesters in the anti-discrimination student movement. According to Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Iqbal of Wari Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been taken into custody.

He was picked up from his home in Narsingdi on Monday (August 19) evening. He is now in DMP's DB custody, a source said.

A source in the Intelligence Branch (DB) of the police confirmed the matter. The concerned official said that they do not know the decision regarding Iqbal. They just kept him in custody.

Police shot protestors including students around the quota reform movement. Sheikh Hasina left the country after resigning on August 5 in the face of the movement based on this incident. However, two days ago, a video of police firing went viral on social media. Former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun was also present there.

In the video, it can be seen that DC Iqbal is informing the then Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal about the police firing. There he is heard saying, 'Sir, the body is being shot down. I shot, one died, one was injured. Only one goes sir, the rest doesn't go. This is the matter of greatest fear and anxiety sir.'

Mohammad Iqbal Wari was in charge of the department throughout the movement. Jatrabari and Shanir Akhra areas were under his jurisdiction. Both these places were the most vulnerable during the movement. Analyzing the total number of victims of the movement, it can be seen that the largest number of police and people were killed in Jatrabari and Shanirakhra areas in Dhaka's movement.
