'Runaway' Awami League leader dies in India


An Awami League leader from Rajshahi who fled to West Bengal after the fall of Sheikh Hasina died of a heart attack. His relatives said that he died while staying at Bagdara village of Raninagar police station in West Bengal's Murshidabad district on Monday (August 19) afternoon.

That Awami League leader's name is Saidul Islam Badal. He is the former president of Haripur Union Awami League of Paba Upazila of Rajshahi and UP member of Ward number 5.

According to local sources, Awami League leader Saidul Islam Badal left for India after hearing the news of the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5. He took shelter in the border area of ​​Charmazhardiyar. Later he crossed the boundary of Char and went to India sometime. He died there on Monday afternoon. That day miscreants ransacked and looted his house. Other male members of his family are also absconding. Efforts are underway to bring him home.

Former Chairman of Haripur Union Parishad of Paba Upazila Bajle Rezbi Al Hasan Munzil said, I heard from his family sources that he died of a stroke while hiding in India.
