Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury has resigned.

Today, Monday, President Md. Bangabhavan sources confirmed that he submitted his resignation letter to Sahabuddin.

Sheikh Hasina left the country after resigning from the post of Prime Minister on August 5, in the face of the student uprising. The President then dissolved Parliament. The interim government was sworn in on August 8.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury resigned 27 days after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government.

Abdul Hamid was elected Speaker after Awami League came to power in 2008 election. When he was elected President, Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury was elected Speaker on 30 April 2013. Since then he has been in this position continuously.

Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury was elected Speaker again after the Awami League won the election without BNP on January 7 and formed the government.

Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury was elected from Rangpur-6 constituency and became a Member of Parliament.
