The government has no plans to lease St. Martin to any country

The interim government has said it has no plans to lease St Martin to any country. The CA Press Wing reported the facts after a Facebook post by a person named Sushant Das Gupta about St. Martin's.

In this regard, CA Press Wing Facts says that land forces talks between the Bangladesh Army and the US Army Pacific have been going on for several years. Its seventh edition was held last year (2023) from August 14 to 16 at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, USA.

Any posts linking St. Martin with these talks are mere rumours. The interim government has stated several times that it has no plans to lease St. Maarten to any foreign country for any purpose.

The interim government has claimed that rumors are being spread about St. Martin. On Saturday (November 2), CA Press Wing Facts issued a clarification on social media to counter these rumours.

According to the Facebook post, Saint Martin is facing at least 20 types of dangers due to uncontrolled tourism. According to a study published in a science journal called Environmental Advance on April 15, due to tourism, in addition to high temperature, salinity increase, deforestation, pollution, sea level rise, turtle habitat destruction, use of plastic, fresh water shortage, tidal erosion, various dangers have appeared in St. Martin.

For two months another new danger has appeared in St. Martin. There has been an outbreak of highly harmful whiteflies. This fly is destroying St. Martin's plants. 300 coconut trees have died in the past few months due to whiteflies.

Experts blame unplanned tourism for St. Martin's current situation.

According to international and national studies, 41 percent of the coral reefs of the country's only coral island have been destroyed. If this destruction is not stopped, by 2045 all the corals of this island will be destroyed and the island will sink.

The decision taken by the government to protect the island, control unregulated tourism and illegal settlements is in the larger public interest. Saint Martin, the country's only coral island, will live on for generations to come.
